Whitewashing Exterior Brick

What do you do when you are tired of your brick on the exterior of your home or business?

Well there are a few options that can revive your homes appearance. One option is a whitewash. In the picture is a house in the Atlanta / Buckhead area. The homeowner wanted to take his red brick house and cover it with a whitewash. A white Argos color was used on this home. Whitewash allows the brick to breath. Painting brick on a house is a lot of Upkeep, Upkeep, Upkeep. Paint will eventually fade (red paint will take on a pinkish tint), chip and peel, requiring a fresh coat within 5 years — especially in the Northern areas where weather can cause a lot of stress to your façade.
Painting brick takes away its natural ability to breathe and expel moisture from the wall.

This homeowner requested a heavy whitewash only showing a little red. Personally I like more red to bleed through. Others like a patina look. Whitewashing gives your brick home character. Some say it gives it an old world style.

Not only can you whitewash exterior brick but a very popular idea is exposed brick in a kitchen that can be whitewashed, also your interior fireplace brick looks great whitewashed.
